Title

DEVELOPING DESKTOP-LIKE WEB GIS APPLICATIONS WITH HTML AND JAVASCRIPT

Abstract

Web technologies are rapidly developing day by day and this makes web applications more similar to desktop applications. There are lots of tools to prepare a "Rich Internet Applications (RIA)" such as Flash/Flex or Silverlight, but these are all dependent on plugins. HTML5 will be the new era to make applications like the ones required plugins. ExtMap (http://www.geowebdeveloper.com/extmap/ ) is a framework based on ExtJS, Google Maps JS API, ESRI JS APIs and OpenLayers to show desktop-like web GIS applications can be made without plugins. This framework is an award-winning framework at ESRI DevSummit 2009 and can be accessible with GPL v3 license. This presentation will show that plugins are not necessary to build web based, desktop-like GIS application with pure HTML, JavaScript and CSS. For now, there are 3 different versions available, which are ExtMap JS, ExtMap REST and ExtMap OpenLayers. These have different supports for different services, but they can be easily convertable to each other. There will be also a new version coming on Object Oriented Model, which will be more modular and easy to integrate with your current applications.
