Title
OLDMAPSONLINE.ORG: OPEN SOURCE & ONLINE TOOLS FOR OLD MAPS
Abstract
OldMapsOnline.org is a research project which is developing software able to assist in the management, manipulation and visualisation of historical map collections on the web. We are also designing web 2.0 tools for collaborative georeferencing, annotation, 3D visualisation, accuracy analysis and geometadata specification.
We will demonstrate our software and online tools and contribution to the existing OSGeo projects. Presented software:
- MapTiler: user-friendly tile map publishing a la Google Maps: http://www.maptiler.org/
- IIPImage JPEG2000: open-source server software for fast delivery of the ultra high resolution raster imagery directly from JPEG2000 or TIFF files. MooViewer, Zoomify, DeepZoom or OpenLayers provides the attractive user-experience on the client side (usually in the web browser). http://help.oldmapsonline.org/jpeg2000/
- Georeferencer.org: an online service, which allows collaborative georeferencing (via Ground Control Points) of almost any online high-resolution image, which is already published on the web. It produces Google Earth 3D visualization, warped WMS for overlaying another maps, visualization of accuracy analysis, geo metadata export and other forms of output. http://www.georeferencer.org/
