Title

GEOEXT AND MAPFISH CLIENT COMPONENTS - HOW TO MIGRATE

Abstract

Going back to first talks and a BOF at FOSS4G 2009 in Sydney the MapFish project built up a PSC, which is necessary for the incubation to OsGeo. Earlier releases of MapFish focussed on the server and a client side, so there was a MapFish client and a MapFish server part, where the client part tried to combine the power of ExtJs and OpenLayers for a powerful webmapping framework.
Since the PSC of MapFish decided to focus on establishing MapFish as a server-side implementation and to replace MapFish client-components by GeoExt (which has the same focus as MapFish-Client but is a completely independent open source project) there are a lot of "old" implementations in MapFish client-components.

The talk focusses on the question of how to migrate and update old MapFish client based applications to GeoExt. We will not try to make a simple "start, then do that, then open ..."-talk but primarily give an overview about differences between the two components and things to know. Nevertheless two technical examples will be shown.
