TILECACHE,GEOWEBCACHE AND MAPPROXY - A TECHNICAL AND USABILITY COMPARISON
Abstract
Since GoogleMaps, YahooMaps and BING tile servers are widely accepted as fast medium for serving maps in the internet.
In the OpenSource world there are three solutions of TileServers. But they can do more, because Tile-Servers are able to harvest any WMS service and some of them even can act as WMS-Server themself. As a contracted work terrestris makes a study and compares the TileServers with respect to about 20 parameters. A part of the study is also a testing of the several TileServers with several different open WMS. we investigated performance win, but also looked at potential rendering problems (point symbols at tile-borders and labels e.g.) or configuration.
The abstract tries to give an overview about the capabilities and also about the community around the mentioned TileServers. In a second part a small live part will show all mentioned TileServers at work and their configuration.
