Title
HIGH-RESOLUTION IMAGE VIEWER WITH GOOGLE MAPS AND GOOGLE MAPS CUTTER CASE OF RITSUMEIKAN UNIVERSITY
Abstract
This research introduces our practice to implement high-resolution image viewer. Using Google Maps Cutter developed by University College London, we displayed historical item images with high resolution on large touchscreeen monitor. Furthermore we have added more features to the generated code by Google Maps Cutter. First, we added instructions by the experts of the items on the image, so that users can watch the detail of the image and read the instructions. Second, we added the image's scale on it. According to its zoom level, users can see the image's real size.
Since Google Maps uses geocode, and the position of this image viewer is also managed by geocode, there were some difficulties for uncommon usage.
The large touchscreen monitor gives users for new way to enjoy high-resolution images with friendly user interface. Because the user interface of Google Maps such as panning, zooming, which is commonly accepted many Internet users, users are easily to learn how to enjoy the display, is commonly accepted many Internet users.
Google Maps is widely used as a map service on the Internet, but as a case study of its technology for different usages. Our research is one of its cases, and would like to share its knowhow.
